What is Mobile HCI?

MobileHCI provides a forum for academics and practitioners to discuss the challenges, potential solutions and innovations towards effective interaction with mobile systems and services – the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) of mobile devices. The conferences are unique in bringing together researchers and practitioners in an informal and collaborative format.

The Conference on Human-Computer Interaction with Mobile Devices and Services (MobileHCI) is a leading series of academic conferences in HCI and is sponsored by ACM SIGCHI, the Special Interest Group on Computer-Human Interaction. MobileHCI has been held annually since 1998 and has been an ACM SIGCHI sponsored conference since 2012. The conference is very competitive, with an acceptance rate of below 20% in 2017 from 25% in 2006 and 21.6% in 2009.

MobileHCI 2020

MobileHCI 2020 is a four-day international conference (October 5 – 8, 2020). The conference is organized around tutorials, papers, presentations, speakers, demonstrations, and workshops which seek contributions in the form of innovations, insights, and analyses related to Human-Computer Interaction and experiences with mobility and beyond. The conference series has shaped research, development, and practice in mobile devices and services for over 20 years.

MobileHCI 2020 welcomes contributions related to any aspect of HCI technology, systems, devices, techniques, experience, application, methodologies, tools, theories, and new perspectives. Our interpretation of mobility is inclusive and broadly construed.

The Venue: OFFIS, Oldenburg, Germany

Oldenburg is a green and modern university city and Germany’s City of Science 2009 in North West Germany. The city is the cultural and administrative hub of North West Germany. In spite of its modern orientation, Oldenburg is still very proud of its historical roots and buildings, delightful traditions and warm, friendly charm. It is also a cycling city and famous for kale tour (‘Kohlfahrt’). The closest major airport is Bremen Airport, reachable within approximately half an hour drive or train ride (about 50 km or 31 miles).

Oldenburg is home to excellent scientific institutions and first-class researchers. The conference venue, OFFIS Institut für Informatik (Institute for Information Technology), is a research institute located in the industrial area of Oldenburg. It is an application-oriented research and development institute and a center of excellence for selected areas of information technology and its fields of application. The institute is divided into four research divisions: Energy, Health, Manufacturing and Transportation, that includes the competence center of Human-Machine Interaction. It works closely together with the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg, which is one of the important and highly regarded educational facilities in northwestern Germany. The university itself is only almost 40 years old, but it can already look back on a history of outstanding scientific achievements. It specializes in interdisciplinary research in sustainable development and renewable energy, with a focus on solar and wind energy.
