This year, for the first time ever, ACM MobileHCI will be fully virtual. This poses a lot of new challenges to everyone involved. Going fully virtual reduces a lot of the costs a conference normally incurs, from renting rooms, to providing presentation equipment, to having food and beverage options available for all participants. However, not all costs go away, e.g. publication costs remain, new online conference systems need to be put in place. Nonetheless, the registration fees will be at an all-time low this year.

Rates can be found in the table below. Please note that for every accepted submission in the proceedings or extended abstracts, at least one author has to register personally, as well as pay a publication fee.

ACM MobileHCI Registration Q&A

Q
When is early bird registration deadline?
A
Early bird deadline is on September 8th 2020.
Q
Why is there no student registration?
A
This year, we will only have full registrations, with a considerable discount for ACM members. As the fees are all quite low and there will be no extra cost for travel and accomodation on the participant side, we feel that a simple fee structure is in everyone’s interest.
Q
Why is there a separate fee for publication?
A
There are different ways of distributing the publication costs among the participants of a conference. Julie Williamson outlines this in her Medium-post [1] discussing those publication costs for a major conference like CHI. This year we chose to go with a model, where successful authors pay for the publication of their work, while we tried to keep the registration fees for non-presenting participants lower to encourage a larger number of people to participate in MobileHCI 2020.

Q
Does the publication fee include the registration to the main conference?
A
No, each successful submission needs to pay a publication fee once. The presenting author also needs to register for the main conference. Exception to the rule are workshop papers invited to the Extended Abstracts (see below).
Q
I am only planning on attending a workshop, do I have to register for the main conference?
A
No. You can register for participation in workshops only. However, we would love to see you for our exciting program in the main conference and encourage you to register and be a part of the conference.
Q
I have a workshop paper accepted for publication in the Extended Abstracts of MobileHCI. What fees do I have to pay?
A
As with all other successful submissions, we ask you to pay a publication fee. As a bonus, however, this fee comes with a free registration to the workshop, where you will be presenting your work and discussing with the workshop participants the latest research in the field.
