Using the Remo Conference Platform

MobileHCI 2021 will be hosted on Remo, an interactive virtual event platform with a 2D floorplan view, as the main conferencing tool.

Getting Started

1. Check your System and Browser Compatibility

  • We recommend using a computer or laptop with a working microphone and camera for the best and full conference experience.
  • Remo does not support tablets and iPads but supports iOS and Android phones.
  • Go to https://remo.co/mic-cam-test/ and run the system check. We recommend using Google Chrome as your browser.
  • If system check fails, make sure to use Supported OS, Devices and Browsers.

2. Register, Sign-In and Set Up Remo Account

  • If you are a registered attendee, you should receive an invitation email to join the Remo event and a link to the event. Invitations will be sent out on 24th September 2021. We will use the same link throughout the conference.
  • Register or sign in using the same email account that you used for conference registration.
  • Set up your Remo Profile (contact info, photo, social media links, etc.).
  • If you have trouble joining the Remo event, please contact our virtual chairs: virtual2021@mobilehci.acm.org

3. Within the Remo Event

Conversation Mode

When you join the event, you will be randomly assigned to a table in the floorplan layout. This is called “Conversation Mode”. remo_guide1

Posters and Demos:
  • Each floor has a different group of posters and demos
  • Click on “Whiteboard” on the Bottom Panel to view a Miro board with the Posters and Demos for the current floor.
  • During Posters and Demos sessions, you can navigate between the tables in the Posters and Demos Area and discuss with authors/presenters.

Presentation Mode

During Keynotes and Paper Sessions, we will enter the Presentation Mode.

  • You can send questions through the Q&A tab
  • Message other attendees or the whole audience through the Chat tab and send live emoji reactions.
  • At the end of each session, the event host will switch the view back into Conversation Mode and everyone will return to the same floor that they were last on.

  • Use these compatible browsers if you are screen sharing
    • Google Chrome: 77+ or above on Mac or Windows
    • FireFox: 76+ or above on Mac or Windows

Rehearsals

All presenters, session chairs and speakers have to attend a 30-min rehearsal slot prior to the conference to test your set-up.

The rehearsals will be run during these times:

  • 25 Sep (Sat) 09:00-10:30 CET
  • 25 Sep (Sat) 17:00-18:30 CET
  • 26 Sep (Sun) 09:00-10:00 CET
  • 27 Sep (Mon) 09:00-11:30 CET
  • 27 Sep (Mon) 15:00-19:30 CET

Please sign up for a rehearsal slot here.

Presentation Set-Up

  • Arrive at least 5-10 min before your session. Full paper presenters have to check in with their session chair.
  • Find a quiet space where you will not be interrupted
  • Avoid backlights such as windows behind you
  • Test your equipment before presenting
  • Follow this guide for sharing presentation slides in Remo
  • Note that by default, Remo does not propose virtual backgrounds, so we suggest that you find a space with a plain background when presenting. However, here are some virtual background options:
    • In-built virtual backgrounds in Remo (BETA) are available only for Google Chrome browser but it slows down your connection and it is not recommended if you have a slow internet connection (Guide to setup)
    • You can also consider using tools such as OBS or 3rd-Party tools
